The Range
I'd like to come out and shoot, can I?
Unfortunately, we are not a public range. We are a private training facility and do not generally allow recreational shooting for the public. Give us a call if youd like to work with an Instructor.
Directions
Where are you located?
We are located off Wire Rd., at 1487 Edisto River Rd, Reevesville, SC 29471. If you are coming to visit us, please note that GPS systems do not seem to be a reliable method of locating us! Edisto River Rd. forms a loop and a section is closed due to flood damage. If traveling in on Wire Rd., cross the I-95 overpass (The east end of Edisto River Rd. is at the foot of the overpass, do not take it!) and continue for 2 1/2 miles before turning left on the West end of Edisto River Rd.
Deposits
Are class deposits refundable?
Once you have successfully signed up for a class, the seat has been secured for you and removed from availability, therefore, we are unable to refund deposits. PLEASE keep this in mind when registering for a class.
CWP Classes
What should I bring when attending a class?
Students should bring a reliable handgun with which they are familiar, a strong-side hip holster, and factory new practice ammunition. Proper Range attire should be worn; no open toe shoes, sandals, flipflops, lowcut tops, or tank tops. Insect repellent, sunscreen, and a hat are strongly recommended.
When will SLED receive my CWP application?
That depends on you. At the end of the day, provided you have completed and met all requirements, your application package will be returned to you and will include your application, fingerprint cards, Instructor endorsed documentation, affixed postage and, a $50.00 money order payable to SLED. You will be responsible to place it in the mail.
I have never fired a gun before; can I still attend a CWP class?
While having fired a gun before is not a prerequisite, please remember that a CWP class is not a Basic Pistol class. We strongly recommend you sign up for some one-on-one training or, attend a Basic Pistol class prior to attending.
Will taking the CWP class ensure that I will receive my Concealed Weapons Permit?
No, mere attendance does not guarantee anything but a firm handshake and a sincere “thank you for coming.” You will be required to pass a timed, live qualification course of fire, two 25 question written tests and, a comprehensive criminal background check.
Ammo is expensive, can I shoot my reloaded ammo?
No, only factory new ammo is allowed on the range. factory reloaded ammunition may be used only if it is still in the original factory sealed box or bag.
Is the range indoors or out?
All of our ranges are outdoors, subject to the elements. (but much easier on the ears)
What should I wear when I come to class?
We recommend appropriate range attire, ie, long pants, socks, and closed toe shoes. Shirts should be capable of being buttoned up to the neck. No flipflops, sandals, or lowcut tops should be worn.
What are the range distances at which I will have to qualify?
You will be required to shoot from the 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, and 15 yard lines. 30 of the 50 rounds will be fired from the holster, the remaining with the gun drawn and at the ready position.
Will I have to draw my gun, then shoot?
Yes, additionally, the gun must be drawn from the holster while concealed. generally, a large t-shirt, polo, or light jacket works very well.
Can I shoot a .22 pistol when I attend the CWP Class, just to make it easy and save some money on ammo?
There is no rule against doing so, however, you may be setting yourself up for a deliberate indifference lawsuit. We, and SLED, strongly recommend using the gun you plan to carry.
